Unyolo Women's Project
Project Overview:
Unyolo Village Project (Unyolo, KENYA) is committed to developing the organization and activities of two women’s groups currently active in Unyolo Village: Nyiego (“jealousy” in the Luo language), made up of 20 older women and Sinaú (“determination”), made up of the same number of younger women. Following the deaths of so many middle-aged men, lots of women are single mothers and widows and have been forced to undertake even great efforts to maintain household income. Nyiego is focused on agricultural work on a home-based farm that will be managed locally. The farm will work in line with organic food production and conservation of the natural environment. The group of younger women is working on crafts.
Goals for 2010:
• To produce maize, groundnuts and beans and sell at market
• To produce handcrafts and market these locally or through IPM/other contacts.
• To become legalized entities (farmers’ association/CBO)
IPM Funding Goal for 2010:
IPM Funding Goal for 2008: $5,000.00
