Join us on an Immersion Experience to El Salvador!

Explore El Salvador with IPM and experience the true beauty in its people. You will learn about El Salvador’s complex history and visit IPM’s Project Partners to come to know what local groups are doing today to promote justice, peace, and hope for children, women and youth.

Day 1: Arrive in San Salvador and visit the town of Aguilares, where Rutillio Grande, SJ lived and worked.

Day 2: Tour the city of San Salvador and travel to Perquín, a mountain community in the state of Morazán.

Day 3: Spend the day in Perquín and visit historical sites such as the Revolution Museum and the village of Mozote, where 1,200 people were killed in a 1981 massacre. Return to San Salvador.

Day 4: Visit with IPM Project Partners Patronato Lidia Coggiola, a community preschool & elementary after-school tutoring program, and ACOMUJERZA, a local women’s cooperative engaged in various income-generating activities such as catering and tailoring.

Day 5: Meet with IPM Project Partner Nutravida Soya Project, which provides low-income families with soy products to supplement their daily nutrition, and visit the Santiago Nonhualco Chapel, built in memory of the four American Churchwomen who were martyred in 1980. Spend the rest of the day with IPM Project Partner ACACCPAMU learning about their mill and bakery project, and the well they helped to build, which provides the surrounding communities with access to clean water.

Day 6: Visit the University of Central America, including the Museum of Martyrs, for a history of the war and the Jesuit martyrs. In the afternoon, visit the Shicali pottery cooperative and the Arbol de Dios art gallery which houses artwork of Fernando Llort, whose artistic influence can be seen throughout the country.

Day 7: Depart for the United States.
