Travel in and around the capital while you familiarize yourself with Nicaragua’s captivating political history and its engaging people. You’ll visit IPM’s Project Partners in the country and learn how local groups are working today to promote justice, peace, and hope for children, women and youth.
Day 1: Arrive in Nicaragua and go on a bus tour of Managua, the country’s capital city.
Day 2: Visit the town of Masaya, and spend the morning at the local artisan market. Then visit Masaya National Park and Volcan Masaya, an active volcano!
Day 3:Visit a local artisan cooperative in Managua and a center for dialogue. Learn more about Nicaraguan history, and meet with representatives from IPM Project Partner Teen Night School to discuss the reality of the country's educational system.
Day 4: Travel to San Francisco Libre to spend the day with IPM Project Partner Mujer y Comunidad, which trains women in six villages in domestic violence prevention skills, income generating activities, and more.
Day 5: Visit with North American journalist, Judy Butler, for a discussion on Nicaraguan history. Spend the afternoon in the colonial town of Granada.
Day 6: Visit IPM Project Partner CEPROSI (Center for Education and the Promotion of Holistic Health) to learn about women and children’s health promotion programs and income generating projects for this rural community.
Day 7: Depart for the United States.
