Come with IPM on an Immersion Experience to Wind River Reservation, Wyoming!
Learn about the Shoshone culture, while appreciating the extraordinary natural resources and landscape which play such a large part in the cultural values of this community. Visit with IPM Project Partners and Friends of IPM, including children, women, and youth working to promote justice, peace, and hope.
Day 1: Travel to Wind River Reservation.
Day 2: Take a tour of the area, including visits to the cemetery where Sacajawea is buried and to the reservation’s oldest community, Washakie, home to Fort Washakie.
Day 3: Dialogue with youth of the former Eastern Shoshone Youth Project about issues facing Native American Youth, then visit with the organizers of IPM Project Partner Sacajewea’s Treasures, a microfinance initiative that supports the traditional artwork of the area. Spend the afternoon horseback riding on local trails.
Day 4: Visit traditional Shoshone hunting grounds with a view of the Grand Teton Mountains, then return to set up Tipi camp.
Day 5: Hike with Shoshone youth to Sinks Canyon for swimming in natural hot springs, and return for an evening Sun Dance or Pow Wow.
Day 6: Depart in the morning for Yellowstone National Park for hiking, touring, and overnight.
Day 7: Return home.
